Arrest Report - January 4, 2018

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 56 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

UNIFORMED PATROL SECTION

 

John Crappell, 44, 606 Teche Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on January 3, 2018 at 8:40 am for possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine) and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of simple assault. Patrol deputies located Crappell at his residence on the warrant. During the arrest, a deputy located a bag of crystal methamphetamine in Crappell’s pants pocket. Crappell was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Demarcus Roy, 25, 179 Mallard Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on January 3, 2018 at 11:19 am for possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine) and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of domestic abuse battery (strangulation), possession of marijuana, and possession of suboxone. A deputy assisting Berwick Police with a call for service on Fifth Street made contact with Roy and located the active warrant for his arrest. During the arrest, a deputy located a bag of crystal methamphetamine in Roy’s pants pocket. Roy was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Christopher Prince, 40, 104 Sundown Court #104, Gibson, LA was arrested on January 4, 2018 at 1:33 am for interfering with a law enforcement investigation and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Shelia Ruffin, 60, 5290 Bayou Black Road, Gibson, LA was arrested on January 4, 2018 at 1:33 am for possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Deputies conducting a follow-up investigation into a case in Amelia made contact with Prince and Ruffin inside a vehicle. While speaking with Prince, a deputy smelled the strong odor of marijuana. The deputy found evidence that Prince had eaten a marijuana cigarette. The deputy received consent to search Ruffin’s purse and located glass pipes used to consume illegal drugs along with other items of drug paraphernalia. Prince and Ruffin were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set for Prince. Bail is set at $1,500 for Ruffin.

 

CORRECTIONS DIVISION

 

Derrick Carter, 32, 1292 St. Charles Street, Thibodaux, LA was arrested on December 29, 2017 at 2:48 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of driving while intoxicated, license plate light required, and driving under suspension. A correctional deputy transported Carter from the Lafourche Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Carter was released on a $7,500 bond.

 

Harold Verdin, 42, Houma, LA was additionally charged with simple battery on January 2, 2018 at 5:51 pm. Verdin, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, struck a member of the medical staff in the arm. Verdin remains incarcerated.
