Arrest Report - January 22, 2018

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum advises that over the last 48-hour weekend reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 122 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

UNIFORMED PATROL SECTION

 

Daniel Elliott, 18, 412 Jupiter Street, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on January 19, 2018 at 12:54 pm for 2 counts theft. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy met with store security personnel and collected evidence that Elliott concealed items in his clothing 2 separate times before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The deputy transported Elliott to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $1,500.

 

Ti’ryce Oliney, 21, 645 Terrebonne Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on January 19, 2018 at 7:52 pm for theft. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy met with store security personnel and collected evidence that Oliney concealed items in a shopping bag with the intention of stealing the goods. Oliney was released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.

 

Nicholas Picou, 37, 2117 Josie Lane, Patterson, LA was arrested on January 20, 2018 at 12:35 am for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and improper lane usage. A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Brashear Avenue in Morgan City after observing the driver cross over the centerline and the fog line. The deputy identified the driver as Picou and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and his body. The deputy also observed other indicators of impairment. The deputy performed a standardized field sobriety test. Picou conducted the test poorly. The deputy transported Picou to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Picou was released on a $5,250 bond.

 

Shamus Dardeau, 42, 525 Clarke Street, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on January 20, 2018 at 5:19 pm on a City Court of Morgan City warrant for theft and contempt of court charges. A deputy located Dardeau at his residence on the warrant and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Bradford Jones, 39, 311 Charlotte Drive #8, Patterson, LA was arrested on January 21, 2018 at 11:59 pm for the following offenses:

  • Resisting an officer (giving false information)
  • Possession of Schedule I (marijuana)
  • Warrant for issuing worthless checks
  • City Court of Morgan City warrants for driving under suspension, improper lane usage and contempt of court charges

Deputies responding a report of a fight at a business in Amelia spoke with several subjects, including Jones. During the course of the investigation, deputies found that Jones gave them a false name and that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest from St. Mary Parish and the City Court of Morgan City. During a search of Jones, a deputy located a marijuana cigarette. Jones was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Hallie Toups, 45, 112 Doris Road, Amelia, LA was arrested on January 21, 2018 at 9:41 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of speeding and direct contempt of court. While working in Amelia, a deputy spoke with Toups and located the active warrant for his arrest. Toups was released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.

 

Jeffrey Schexnider, 38, 421 Southeast Boulevard, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on January 21, 2018 at 8:21 pm for theft. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy met with store security personnel and collected evidence that Shexnider took an item from its packaging and left the store without paying for it. The deputy transported Shexnider to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Shexnider was later released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.

 

Harry Nerve, 63, 205 Talbot Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on January 22, 2018 at 1:24 am for no tail lights and operating a vehicle while license is suspended. A deputy patrolling the Franklin area observed a vehicle traveling on LA Highway 182 with a tail light that was not working. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, identified the driver as Nerve, and found that he was driving the vehicle with a suspended license. Nerve was released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.

 

Charles Brooks, 59, 415 Hamilton Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on January 22, 2018 at 1:31 am for the following offenses:

  • Speeding
  • Operating a vehicle while license is suspended
  • Possession of (open) alcoholic containers in motor vehicles
  • Possession of Schedule I (marijuana)

A deputy monitoring traffic on US Highway 90 in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle speeding 66 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Brooks. The deputy found that Brooks was driving with a suspended license. While speaking with brooks, the deputy learned that there was marijuana inside the vehicle. The deputy located a marijuana cigar and also observed an open can of beer inside the vehicle. Following the investigation, Brooks was released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.

 

Donald Fuselier, Jr., 34, 210 ½ St. Charles Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on January 22, 2018 at 3:04 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of no seat belt, direct contempt of court, and failure to honor written promise to appear. A deputy assisting Franklin Police with a call for service on Haifleigh Street spoke with Fuselier and located the active warrant for his arrest. Fuselier was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $125.

 

CORRECTIONS DIVISION

 

Emma Matthews, 64, 178 Friendship Alley, Amelia, LA was arrested on January 20, 2018 at 12:17 pm on a warrant for aggravated cruelty to animals. On January 14, 2018, a deputy patrolling Amelia observed a dog inside of a doghouse in the front yard of a residence on Friendship Alley. The deputy observed that the animal was unresponsive and found that the dog was dead. During the subsequent investigation, the deputy collected evidence that residents left the animal outdoors during extremely cold weather without proper shelter which resulted in the dog’s death. The deputy obtained warrants for the residents on animal cruelty charges. Matthews turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center after learning of the warrant for her arrest. Matthews was released on a $1,500 bond.

 

K-9 UNIT - NARCOTICS SECTION

 

Bernard Babino, 42, 313 Easy Street, St. Joseph, LA was arrested on January 19, 2018 at 6:21 pm for possession of synthetic cannabinoids and possession of drug paraphernalia. The K-9 detective conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Willow Street. While speaking with the occupants, the detective observed 2 bags of synthetic cannabinoids by a passenger. The passenger was identified as Babino. The detective also located several cigar wraps inside the vehicle. Babino was released on a summons to appear in court on April 2, 2018.
