K-9 Unit Finds Drugs During Traffic Stop Investigation, 2 Arrested

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 39 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Thaddeus Gabriel, 22, 214 Rosebud Street, Baldwin, LA was arrested on February 8, 2018 at 7:21 pm on an Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for principal to 2nd degree murder and principal to attempted 2nd degree murder. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office in locating Gabriel. Gabriel came to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in reference to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation and was subsequently arrested on the active warrant. Gabriel was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
NARCOTICS SECTION
Dontavius Withers, 20, 1553 Dillard Road, Stone Mountain, GA was arrested on February 8, 2018 at 4:55 pm for possession of Schedule II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute.
Marlon Thomas, 22, 1411 Stoneleigh Hill Road, Lithonia, GA was arrested on February 8, 2018 at 4:55 pm for possession of Schedule I (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, and transactions involving drug proceeds.
During a traffic stop investigation on US Highway 90 in the Four Corners area, 2 occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession of illegal drugs. The K-9 Unit narcotics detective found 2 bags of marijuana and $596 in cash on Thomas. Over 2 dozen small bags of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were found in a backpack belonging to Thomas. The detective also found a bag of crack cocaine in a backpack being carried by Withers. The drugs were prepared in a manner consistent with the street level sale of the illegal drugs. Louisiana State Police assisted with the traffic stop investigation. Both subjects were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
