Arrest Report - May 18, 2018

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 33 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Joseph Pollard, Jr., 56, 202 South Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 8:55 am on a warrant for failure to notify law enforcement of a change of address as a sex offender. In 1989, Pollard was convicted of molestation of a juvenile in St. Mary Parish. In 2003, Pollard was convicted of indecent behavior with juveniles in St. Martin Parish. A detective with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Compliance Section conducted a compliance check on Pollard and found that he had moved from his registered address in Morgan City. The detective obtained a warrant for his arrest for failure to comply with the state sex offender registration requirement. Pollard turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City after learning of the warrant for his arrest. Pollard was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Penny Choate, 53, 5109 Old Jeanerette Road, New Iberia, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 8:41 pm for disturbing the peace (intoxication) and resisting an officer with force or violence. A deputy received a request to check on the welfare of a subject at a residence in Franklin. While doing so, the deputy made contact with another subject identified as Choate. The deputy smelled the strong odor of alcohol on her breath and observed other signs of alcohol intoxication. The deputy advised Choate to leave the property. Choate refused and began yelling profane language at another subject at the residence. During her arrest for disturbing the peace, Choate attempted to pull away from a deputy. Choate was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $6,000.

 

Rickey Webster, 57, 128 Third Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 8:16 pm on a Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections warrant for parole violation. A deputy investigating a reported disturbance in Verdunville made contact with Webster and located the active warrant for his arrest. Webster was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Troy Carnley, 37, 516 Henry Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 10:36 pm for the following offenses:

  • No insurance
  • Switched or stolen license plate
  • Criminal trespass
  • Disturbing the peace

A deputy responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in Bayou Vista and identified Carnley as the suspect in the incident. The deputy collected evidence that Carnley went onto private property and knocked on the door of a residence causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. The deputy issued descriptive information on Carnley and the vehicle he was driving to area police. During the investigation, the deputy found that Carnley had a switched license plate on the vehicle and that he was driving without insurance. Morgan City Police located Carnley in Morgan City. Following his arrest, Carnley was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $1,750.

 

Freddy Williams, 59, 136 Cremo Lane, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 7:11 pm on a warrant for simple assault. The warrant was issued after a deputy collected evidence that Williams made comments of a threatening nature towards a female victim in April while at a residence in Patterson. A deputy located Williams at his residence on the warrant and transported Williams to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Williams was released on a $535 bond.

 

Sharletta Williams, 34, 706 N. Dupre Road #31, Ville Platte, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 11:00 pm for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy traveling on LA Highway 83 observed a vehicle backing up on the on-ramp of US Highway 90. The deputy stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Williams. While speaking with her about her actions, the deputy found that Williams was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. Williams was released on a summons to appear in court on August 15, 2018.

 

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

 

Joycelyn Webb, 52, 408 Fifth Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 5:37 pm for the following offenses:

  • Possession of Schedule II (hydrocodone) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Schedule IV (Xanax) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Schedule IV (clonazepam)
  • Possession of Legend Drug (promethazine)
  • Possession of Legend Drug (cyclobenzaprine)
  • Violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone)

 

Daniel Griffin, 41, 408 Fifth Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on May 17, 2018 at 5:37 pm for the following offenses:

  • Possession of Schedule II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor
  • Violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone)
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Resisting an officer with force or violence
  • Warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt of court, speeding, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, and failure to honor written promise to appear

 

Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section conducted a search warrant at Webb and Griffin’s residence. When they entered the location, they observed Griffin put a bag of cocaine in his mouth and attempt to swallow it. Detectives stopped him from ingesting the drug despite Griffin’s attempts to forcefully pull away from them. Detectives also located 4 different types of pills in the residence and found evidence that Webb was selling the drugs. 2 small children were present in the residence when the drugs were located. The residence is located across the street from a church.
