The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division is responsible for detecting, investigating, and prosecuting persons who violate laws in regards to illegal narcotics. This includes production, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and chronic use of illegal drugs; and the associated money laundering of drug proceeds commonly associated with drug related offenses.
Investigators assigned to this division are skilled in the techniques used to fight illegal drug trafficking and abuse. Narcotics Division detectives work closely with federal, state, and outside local agencies to combat drug trafficking in St. Mary Parish.

Under the direction of Sheriff Mark Hebert, the K-9 Unit was reinstated to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in January 2016. The team, K-9 Buddy and his handler, Detective Chris Crappell, train daily through the grant funded program. The team is certified to detect a variety of illegal drugs and track subjects. In addition to enhancing the Patrol Section and Narcotics Section of the Sheriff’s Office, the K-9 Unit assists the United States Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Captain Duval Arthur, III
Captain Duval Arthur, III joined law enforcement in 2003 for the Berwick Police Department while also attending LSU. After graduating with a degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology, he accepted a position as a full time law enforcement officer with the Berwick Police Department. In 2008, he accepted a position on the Narcotics Task Force at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office. In 2016, Duval was promoted to the Rank of Captain supervising the operations of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division. As a supervisor, he challenges the members of his division to continually strive to better themselves and the work they do in pursuing local drug dealers. Captain Duval also serves as team leader and sniper for the Sheriff's Office Special Response Team.
