According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 45 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Joey Viltz, 49, 2461 Highway 318 Sorrel, LA was arrested on October 8, 2014 at 1:10 pm for resisting an officer and on a warrant for 4 counts misuse of the 911 emergency system. A deputy located Viltz on Highway 318 on the warrant. During the arrest, Viltz attempted to pull away from the deputy. The warrant stems from an investigation into 4 calls made to 911 in which Viltz screamed vulgar language at an operator. The deputy transported Viltz to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Nelson Gonzalez, 40, 106 Bergeron Lane, Morgan City, LA was arrested on October 8, 2014 at 1:20 pm for simple battery. A deputy responded to a disturbance at a business on Degravelle Road in Amelia. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Gonzales struck a male victim. Gonzales was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was later released on a $500 bond.
Benjamin Wood, 28, 109 Beau Lane, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on October 8, 2014 at 5:22 pm for the following offenses:
- Hit and run driving
- Careless operation of a motor vehicle
- No drivers license
- Warrant for failure to appear on the charge of hit and run driving
A deputy was dispatched to a report of a crash at the intersection of Highway 182 and Universe Road in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a vehicle on Highway 182 matching the description of a suspect vehicle from a previous hit and run complaint received just prior to the second complaint of a crash. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Wood, and learned that he had an active warrant for his arrest. During the course of the investigation, the deputy identified Wood as the driver in the hit and run incident that took place on Highway 90 near Universe Road. The deputy transported Wood to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $6,750.
Gordon Jones, 32, 255 Highway 400, Napoleonville, LA was arrested on October 9, 2014 at 3:15 am for possession Schedule I (marijuana).
Brandon Williams, 30, 716 Duval Street, Amelia, LA was arrested on October 9, 2014 at 3:17 am for possession of Schedule I (marijuana).
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed two male subjects in a vehicle parked on Friendship Alley playing loud music. As the deputy approached, one of the subjects tossed an item to the ground. The deputy made contact with men, identified as Jones and Williams and located the item which was determined to be piece of marijuana. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a small plastic bag containing marijuana. Jones and Williams were released on summonses to appear in court on January 26, 2015.
Mark M. Goulas, 36, 100 Ash Lane, Thibodaux, LA was arrested on October 9, 2014 at 4:05 am for possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant from Thibodaux Police for failure to appear on the charges of general speed law, expired drivers license, and no insurance. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a subject sleeping in a vehicle parked in the parking lot of a business on Lake Palourde Road. The deputy made contact with the subject and identified him as Goulas who held an active warrant for arrest. During the course of the investigation, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a glass pipe containing residue consistent with the illegal drug use. The deputy transported Goulas to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $1,500.
