According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 39 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Elbert Cannon, Jr., 49, 1239 Mariaun Road, Eunice, LA was arrested on December 18, 2014 at 7:19 am for simple assault. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at the truck stop on Highway 90 in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned from witness statements and other evidence that Cannon, a trucker, made verbal threats to another truck driver over a parking location. The deputy released Cannon on a summons to appear in court on March 11, 2015.
Deidra James, 37, 611 Duke Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on December 18, 2014 at 10:12 am on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy assigned to the Warrants Division located James at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin on the active warrant. James was released on a summons to appear in court on March 11, 2015.
Daniel L. Robertson, Sr., 29, 258 Jones Road #1, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on December 18, 2014 at 12:43 pm on a warrant for failure to appear in the charges of improper child restraint, expired motor vehicle inspection, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. A jailer learned of the active warrant for Robertson during the booking process at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. No bail is set.
Damenn Engleton, 25, Morgan City, LA was additionally charged with simple battery and battery of a correctional officer on December 18, 2014 at 4:36 pm.
Paul Charles, 33, Morgan City, LA was additionally charged with simple assault on December 18, 2014 at 4:36 pm.
A jailer and an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center were working in a dorm when Engleton, another inmate, threw urine on them. Charles, also an inmate, then attempted to strike the inmate working in the dorm. Both offenders remain incarcerated.
Gary Polk, 66, 1245 Delmar Avenue, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on December 18, 2014 at 6:48 pm for simple battery and on a warrant from Caldwell Parish for failure to appear on the charge of driving while intoxicated. A deputy responded to a disturbance at a residence in Bayou Vista. The deputy made contact with Polk. During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that Polk approached a female victim in an aggressive manner and struck her in the face during a conversation the two were having. The deputy transported Polk to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Kane Thomas, 26, 2029 Chitimacha Trail, Charenton, LA was arrested on December 19, 2014 at 2:53 am for open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, and no license plate light. The charges are result of a traffic stop conducted on Chitimacha Trail near Edmond Lane. The deputy transported Thomas to the parish jail for booking. Thomas was later released on a summons to appear in court on March 11, 2015.
