Death Investigation

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Centerville man who was reported missing Sunday afternoon. On October 25, 2015 at 3:30 pm, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person. Detectives began an investigation into the whereabouts of 25 year old Nevis Sterling. Sterling’s family contacted the Sheriff’s Office after locating his car at the Deli Mart on Highway 182 in Verdunville.

On Monday, October 26, 2015 at 4:26 pm, the Sheriff’s Office received information that workers on a tug boat on the Intracoastal Waterway located a body in the water near a business in the 8000 block of Highway 182 in Amelia. The St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office was contacted and identified the deceased as Sterling.

Detectives are investigating the death. Autopsy results are pending. Anyone with information regarding Sterling’s whereabouts over the course of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday is asked to contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960 or 985-384-1622.
