Early Morning Shooting in Amelia Under Investigation

On December 22, 2015 at 1:07 am, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office dispatcher received multiple calls through 911 from several subjects stating that they heard gunfire near Bailey’s Lane and West Side Park Lane in Amelia. Deputies responded to the area and located a 35 year old male victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his back on Lake Palourde Road near Bailey’s Lane. Deputies also located an SUV off of the roadway. The victim was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Teche Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. Detectives investigating the shooting learned that the victim was driving the SUV from Bailey’s Lane onto Lake Palourde Road when gunshots struck the vehicle grazing the victim.
