UPDATED - Suspect in Custody - Active Situation in Ashton

The shooting suspect is in custody. The suspect is injured and will be transported to an area hospital for treatment. The investigation has been turned over to Louisiana State Police. Any further details on the case will be released through LSP. US 90 is now open.



At 6:10 am this morning the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a possible shooting at a residence on Dumesnil Road in Ashton. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject with injuries. Deputies were successful in removing the subject from the scene. The injured subject was transported to a local hospital. While continuing to secure the scene, deputies were fired upon and took cover. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was activated. Additional agencies responded to assist including Louisiana State Police, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Vermillion Parish Sheriff’s Office. While extracting deputies from the location, deputies were fired upon. One deputy was injured and has been transported to a local hospital. The shooter remains inside the residence. The situation is active. Highway 90 between 318 and 83 is closed at this time due to the residence’s proximity to the roadway.
