According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 50 complaints and reports the following arrests from the Uniformed Patrol Division and Narcotics Division:
Joseph Gioia, 57, 103 Marin Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 26, 2016 at 1:40 pm for violation of the parish leash law. A deputy responding to an animal complaint learned that a cat belonging to Gioia scratched and bit a female victim while running loose in the neighborhood. Gioia was released on a summons to appear in court on August 29, 2016.
Leslie Matthews, 41, 178 Friendship Alley, Amelia, LA was arrested on May 26, 2016 at 1:16 pm for domestic abuse battery. Deputies responded to a report of a fight on Friendship Alley. Deputies identified the subjects involved and gathered evidence that Matthews struck a female victim in the head. Matthews was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Kendrick Fontenot, 34, 1205 Garber Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 26, 2016 at 7:32 pm for failure to signal a turn, possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in vehicles, and possession of Schedule II (codeine). Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division patrolling the Morgan City area observed a vehicle fail to signal a turn onto Veterans Boulevard. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Fontenot. During the traffic stop investigation, detectives located an open bottle of liquor and a baby bottle containing liquid codeine in the car. Fontenot was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
William Hale, III, 28, 205 Cedar Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 27, 2016 at 1:39 am on a warrant for parole violation. A deputy received information on Hale who was wanted on an active warrant. The deputy located Hale on Willow Street and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Juvenile male, 16, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on May 26, 2016 at 9:46 pm on a warrant for illegal possession of stolen things. The warrant was issued following an investigation into a complaint of the theft of an electric motorcycle from outside of a residence in Bayou Vista. Working with a patrol deputy who developed information on the case, a detective positively identified the juvenile as a subject who was in possession of the stolen item at one point during the course of events following the crime. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. The case remains under investigation.
Michael J. Martin, 31, 507 South Louisiana Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on May 26, 2016 at 9:59 pm on 2 warrants for failure to appear on the charges of criminal neglect of family. A deputy was notified by the Franklin Police Department that officers had detained a subject with an active warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. The deputy made contact with Martin at the Franklin Police Department and transported him to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $14,805.53.
