Anti-Theft Awareness Advisory/String of Overnight Burglaries Under Investigation

Over the course of the day on July 13, 2016, deputies responded to 6 complaints of vehicle burglaries and bicycle thefts in the Franklin area. The three vehicle burglaries and 3 bicycle thefts were reported at residences on Michael Drive, Chatsworth Road, and Lagrange Robicheaux Road. The crimes occurred between the evening hours of Tuesday, July 12th and the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 13th. The perpetrator(s) opened the doors of the unlocked vehicles and took loose change (coins), a purse, and other items. The bicycles were stolen from areas around the residences where the bikes were parked.

Detectives are currently working to identify the person(s) who committed the crimes and are asking that residents report any suspicious subjects or vehicles they see in their communities. Anyone with information on the crimes or information on suspicious activities that were observed should contact the Sheriff's Office at 337-828-1960, 985-384-1622, or by email at crimewatch@stmaryso.com.

Sheriff Mark Hebert says, “The majority of vehicle burglaries worked by our office are crimes of opportunity involving unlocked vehicles. I strongly urge residents to get into the routine of locking their doors and placing valuables out of sight in a secure location. As we continue our community policing efforts to deter crime, we ask for your assistance in eliminating these crimes of opportunity.”
