Arrest Made in Morning Armed Robbery, Shooting in Amelia

This morning at 6:17 am, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery at a residence in the 800 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. As deputies responded, dispatch received a second call from Teche Regional Medical Center regarding a male victim being treated for a gunshot wound to the upper torso. During the preliminary investigation, deputies collected evidence connecting the victim at the hospital to a shooting that occurred at the residence on Lake Palourde Road. The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Detectives investigating the complaints found evidence that 24-year old Dion Maize approached several subjects, pointed a handgun at them, and demanded money. During the confrontation, Maize fired the weapon. He then fled the scene. Detectives located Maize at a residence on South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City. Maize, of 710 Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and attempted first degree murder at 10:17 am. The investigation is ongoing.
