According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 121 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Rogers L. Babino, 58, 500 A Robert Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 12:54 pm for possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles. A deputy conducting a traffic stop on Rosebud Street in Baldwin observed a passenger, Babino, in possession of an open can of beer inside the vehicle. Babino was released on a summons to appear in court on November 21, 2016.
Khadijah Batiste, 22, 672 Ayo Street, Raceland, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 1:01 pm on a warrant for probation violation. Batiste was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office on the warrant. No bail is set.
George D. Harvey, III, 34, 115 Cane Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 5:17 pm on a warrant for failure to appear for a drug court status conference and failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Harvey was transported from the Harris County jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. No bail is set.
Henry Fontenot, 28, 318 North Prairie Road, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 6:09 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Fontenot turned himself in on the warrant at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Bail is set at $500.
Teddy Boudoin, Jr., 41, 13247 Palm Street, Vacherie, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 8:17 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of reverse lights on vehicle in drive and driving under suspension. A deputy transported Boudoin from the Assumption Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. Bail is set at $15,772.48.
Therold James, 32, Bayou Vista, LA was additionally charged with criminal damage to property and threatening a public official on August 19, 2016 at 1:49 pm. Correctional officers at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center observed damage to the wall of a cell that housed inmate James. While being relocated to another area of the facility, James made verbal threats on a correctional officer’s life. James remains incarcerated.
Kemper Batiste, 37, 134 Dottie’s Lane, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 20, 2016 at 3:17 pm for the following offenses:
- Simple assault
- Resisting an officer (giving false information)
- Criminal damage to property
- Threatening a public official
- Battery of a police officer
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance on Dottie’s Lane. The deputy made contact with Batiste, and found evidence that he sent threatening text messages to a female victim. While transporting Batiste to the parish jail he spit on deputies and also caused damage to the patrol unit. After being brought to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, Batiste threatened a deputy’s life. During booking, the deputy learned that Batiste lied about his identity. Batiste was released on a $2,500 bond.
Terrance M. Bergeron, 27, 817 Railroad Avenue, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 20, 2016 at 5:00 pm for the following offenses:
- Resisting an officer
- Illegal possession of stolen things
- Illegal carrying of weapons
- Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number or mark
- Warrant for failure to appear on the charges of forgery and theft
A deputy received information regarding the whereabouts of a stolen excavator/bucket tractor and a description of the person seen driving the construction vehicle. The deputy located the piece of equipment on Richard Road in Ashton and made contact with a male subject matching the description inside a shed on the property. As the deputy worked to detain the subject, he pulled away and attempted to back further into the dimly lit shed. The subject was then handcuffed, pending further investigation. The subject refused to identify himself to the deputy. The deputy located a loaded handgun concealed in the subject’s pocket. During the course of the investigation, the deputy collected statements and other evidence that the subject drove the stolen tractor to the location on Richard Road. The subject was transported to the parish jail for booking and was positively identified as Bergeron. During booking, an active warrant for Bergeron’s arrest was also located. No bail is set.
Mark Romano, 35, 224 Cherry Street, Houma, LA was arrested on August 20, 2016 at 7:41 pm for the following offenses:
- Disturbing the peace (fighting)
- Disturbing the peace (intoxicated)
- No proof of insurance
- Failure to report a crash
- Failure to carry registration in vehicle
- Hit and run driving
A deputy responded to a report of a fight at a business on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. While en route, the deputy received information that the subject reportedly fighting left the scene and crashed into a ditch on the Highway 182 frontage road. The deputy arrived at the reported site of the crash and observed a vehicle in the ditch. Deputies searched the area and located a subject matching the description of the driver covered in mud and detained him pending an investigation. The deputy identified the subject as Romano and smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. During the investigation, deputies collected evidence that Romano started a fight earlier in the night with another male subject. Deputies also found that Romano was operating the pick-up truck without proof of insurance or registration in the vehicle. Romano was transported to the parish jail for booking. Romano was released on a $2,500 bond.
Kristin Belanger, 28, 114 Percy Road, Lafayette, LA was arrested on August 20, 2016 at 8:50 pm on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. A deputy responding to an unrelated complaint at a residence in Ricohoc made contact with Belanger and located the active warrant for her arrest. Belanger was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Braxton Mitchell, 27, 210 Mitchell Lane, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 21, 2016 at 3:07 am on a warrant for simple battery and disturbing the peace. A deputy responding to an unrelated complaint at a business in Franklin observed Mitchell at the location. Having knowledge of the active warrant for his arrest, the deputy made contact with Mitchell and transported him to the parish jail for booking. The warrant was issued following an investigation into a complaint of a battery that occurred in the Franklin area. A deputy collected statements indicating that Mitchell struck another male subject and caused a disturbance in the neighborhood. Mitchell was released on a $750 bond.
Juan Vasquez Rosales, 28, 1101 6th Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 21, 2016 at 5:39 pm for no driver’s license and no insurance. A deputy investigating a 2 vehicle crash on Duhon Boulevard in Amelia made contact with Rosales who was one of the drivers. The deputy found that Rosales was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license and without insurance. Rosales was released on a summons to appear in court on November 21, 2016.
Ellis L. Whorton, 25, 202 ½ Brashear Avenue, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 21, 2016 at 9:25 pm for driving under suspension. A deputy on highway 90 in the Patterson area observed a vehicle cross over the fog line multiple times and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Whorton, and found that he was operating the vehicle with a license that was listed as suspended. Whorton was released on a summons to appear in court on November 21, 2016.
Charles Edmond, 55, 2029 Edmond Lane, Charenton, LA was arrested on August 21, 2016 at 10:59 pm on a Chitimacha Tribal Police Department warrant for simple robbery and simple battery. A deputy located Edmond at his residence on the warrant and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert the Narcotics Division made the following arrests:
Danayre Smith, 21, 129 Sydney Jo Lane, Berwick, LA was arrested on August 19, 2016 at 7:51 pm for possession of Schedule I (marijuana), obstruction of justice, and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (Drug-Free Zones). Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section were patrolling Bayou Vista when they conducted a traffic stop on Southeast Boulevard. Detectives smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Through the course of the investigation, detectives gathered evidence that a passenger in the vehicle, Smith, had concealed a bag of marijuana on her person as the vehicle was being stopped. The bag of marijuana was recovered and another bag of marijuana was located in Smith’s purse. The drugs were located within 2,000 feet of a school, church, and park. Smith was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
