According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 34 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Kerry Oppenheimer, 47, 516 Emery Lewis Ave, New Iberia LA, was arrested on February 9, 2017 at 8:41am on charges of simple burglary. Oppenheimer is currently incarcerated and remained at the parish jail. The arrest stems from an investigation initiated on December 21, 2015 regarding the burglary of a residence in the Cypremort Point area. Through the investigative process, detectives were able to link DNA evidence from the crime scene to Oppenheimer. No bail is set.
Dustin Ballard, 27, 6427 I49 South Service Rd, Opelousas LA, was arrested on February 9, 2017 at 5:00pm for theft of goods. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area responded to a call of a shoplifter at a local business. The deputy made contact with Ballard and learned that he had taken a bluetooth speaker, a watch and several other novelty items from the business without paying for them. Bail is set at $2,500.
