Landen Pillaro is the New D.A.R.E. Officer in St. Mary Parish

08/29/2018

Sheriff Scott Anslum would like to announce our new DARE officer, Landen Pillaro. Deputy Pillaro completed the D.A.R.E. training in Lafayette this past week and has started his new assignment as our D.A.R.E. officer in St. Mary Parish.

The D.A.R.E. program began in the 1980’s as a joint effort between the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District as a drug resistance program aimed at elementary school students. Over the years, D.A.R.E. has grown to include middle school and high school age-appropriate curricula. The program teaches kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. Over 75% of all school districts utilize the program.

“I always felt, since I was young, that our youth was a group I wanted to help,” said Pillaro. “This opportunity was put in my lap and I’m super excited about it. I am ready to expand the D.A.R.E. program in St. Mary Parish.”
