Arrest Report- January 2, 2019

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 120-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 212 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Charles Cantrell, 48, 8018 Progress Lane, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on December 28, 2018, at 2:57 pm for driving under suspension, expired license plate, and expired or no inspection sticker.

A deputy patrolling the area of Franklin observed a vehicle traveling with no inspection sticker. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Cantrell. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Cantrell’s license plate was expired and his drivers license was suspended. Cantrell was arrested and released on a summons to appear on March 6, 2019.

 

Ervin Gant, Jr., 50, 608 Martin Luther King Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 28, 2018, at 5:09 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of failure to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.

A corrections deputy made contact with Gant when he was escorted to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on a bond surrender. Gant was arrested on said warrant and incarcerated.  No bail has been set.

 

Roneshia Colbert, 27, 110 East Long Street, Baldwin, LA, was arrested on December 28, 2018, at 11:42 pm for driving under suspension and speeding.

A deputy patrolling the area of Four Corners observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Colbert. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Colbert’s drivers license was suspended. Colbert was arrested and released on a summons to appear on March 6, 2019.

 

Anthony Jones, 37, 606 Cleveland Street, Patterson, LA, was arrested on December 28, 2018, at 11:57 pm for criminal damage to property-simple.

A corrections deputy at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center was made aware of a light that had been pulled from the ceiling in a cell occupied only by Jones. Jones was arrested for the charge of criminal damage to property and continues to be incarcerated. No bail has been set for the charge.

 

Jeffrey Schexnider, 39, 421 Southeast Boulevard, Bayou Vista, LA, was arrested on December 29, 2018, at 10:56 pm for theft and criminal trespass.

A deputy was dispatched to a local business in Bayou Vista in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with business personnel who stated that a person, later identified as Schexnider, was in the process of stealing clothing. The deputy observed Schexnider’s feet while he was in the changing room putting pants on over his jeans. Upon making contact with Schexnider as he exited the changing room, Schexnider admitted that he had layers of clothing on under his clothes that he had taken. Business personnel also produced documentation that had previously banned Schexnider from the business. Schexnider was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

Victor Berthelot, Jr., 39, 5727 Highways 182, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2018, at 12:20 pm on a warrant for battery-second degree.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Highway 182 in Ricohoc in reference Victor Berthelot, Jr., who held an active warrant for his arrest. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Berthelot and advised him of the warrant. Berthelot was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $2,000.

 

Jerri Dufren, 35, 3522 Highway 182, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2018, at 1:04 pm on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of Vyvanse, and on two warrants for failure to appear for a drug court status conference.  

Deputies learned of a subject with active warrants in a vehicle on Highway 182. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the subject, Dufren. Dufren was advised of the active warrant for her arrest. Dufren was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.  

 

 

Carl Joseph, Jr., 25, 602 Trowbridge Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2018, at 1:40 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.

A deputy made contact with Joseph at a residence on Trowbridge Street and advised Joseph of the active warrant for his arrest. Joseph was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $1,475.  

 

 

Charlie Scott, 56, 312 Talbot Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2018, at 8:28 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A deputy made contact with Scott at a local business in Franklin as Scott was banned from the premises. During the investigation, the deputy learned of an active warrant for Scott’s arrest. Scott was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

Kory Champagne, 45, 17812 Highway 182, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2018, at 10:21 pm for driving under suspension and driving left of center.

A deputy patrolling the area of Franklin observed a vehicle swerve across the center line on Highway 182 east bound. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Champagne. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Champagne’s license was suspended. Champagne was arrested and released on a summons to appear on March 6, 2019.

 

Leo Green, Jr., 53, 168 Verdun Lane, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2018, at 11:34 pm on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of flight from an officer and criminal neglect of family.

A deputy made contact with Green on a traffic stop on Prairie Road North. The deputy learned of active warrants for Green’s arrest. Green was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $4,674.88.

 

Rivera Lander, 31, 3772 Duval Street, Amelia, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2019, at 12:01 am for disturbing the peace-noise and reckless operation with accident.

Deputies were dispatched to a noise complaint on Duval Street in Amelia. Upon arrival the deputies heard a vehicle engine being revved up constantly. The deputies observed a vehicle that had collided with a fence and was trying to back off the fence but was stuck. The deputies made contact with the driver, Lander, and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $1,000.

 

Ruthaline Joseph, 57, 1435 Washington Street, Jeanerette, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2019, at 2:48 am for disturbing the peace intoxicated and trespass-criminal.

Deputies patrolling Amelia were dispatched to a local business in reference to a person refusing to leave the premises.  Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with a person identified as Joseph, who was intoxicated, uncooperative, and refusing to leave the premises.  Joseph was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $2,000.  

 

Colleen Kelly, 47, 11521 Highway 87, Jeanerette, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2019, at 5:20 am for driving while intoxicated and open container.

Deputies patrolling the area of Jeanerette were dispatched to a traffic incident on Highway 87 westbound in reference to a vehicle being stuck in the ditch. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the driver, Kelly, and while speaking with her the deputies noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her person. The deputies conducted field sobriety in which Kelly performed poorly. Deputies also found an open container of alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. Kelly was transported to the Franklin Police Department for blood testing on the Intoxilyzer 9000, which tested her blood alcohol content to be 0.217g%. Kelly was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Kelly was released on a $3,000 bond.

 

Scorpio Lemon, 36, 514 Fredrick Lane, Baldwin, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2019, at 9:26 am for driving under suspension and turning movements and required signals.

A deputy patrolling the area of Baldwin observed a vehicle fail to give a proper turn signal. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Lemon. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Lemon’s license was suspended. Lemon was arrested and released on a summons to appear on March 6, 2019.
