St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise W. Smith Reports an Attempted Jail Escape
Sheriff Blaise W. Smith advises of an attempted jail escape on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 5:06 pm at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Anthony Jones, 41, 606 Cleveland Avenue, Patterson, LA, was arrested on January 12, 2019, for attempted escape and criminal damage to property-simple.
A corrections deputy observed Jones cause damage to a light fixture in his cell. Jones was placed in another room and subsequently attempted to escape from that room. Jones’ attempt was not successful and deputies kept him in custody. Acadian Ambulance was called to give medical attention to Jones and after being medically cleared, Jones was booked on the charges of criminal damage to property and attempted escape.
“Because of the quick response of jail personnel and patrol deputies, the attempt was stopped almost immediately,” said Sheriff Smith.
Jones has been incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center since September 20, 2018, on the charge of 1st-degree robbery in reference to a robbery that occurred on August 31, 2018, at a business in Bayou Vista.
