St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 28 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Rodrick Davis, 27, 507 Daspit Lane, Lot B, New Iberia, La., was arrested on April 1, 2019, at 10:46 am on warrants from Broussard Police Department for burnt headlight, contempt of court, and driving under suspension. Davis also had warrants from the New Iberia Police Department for simple burglary, home invasion, theft, aggravated burglary, and domestic abuse battery.

 

Davis was located at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin, La. He was arrested on the above-mentioned warrants. Davis was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bond has been set.

 

Dedrick Jamarcus Gant, Sr., 33, 1702 Cross Rd. #2, Bayou Vista, La., was arrested on April 1, 2019, at 7:35 pm for careless operation and driving under suspension.

 

A deputy was patrolling US Highway 90 in Bayou Vista, La., when he observed a vehicle traveling up Universe St. towards Highway 90 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign on Universe St. entering Highway 90 West. As the vehicle took the J-Turn and entered Highway 90 East, the deputy observed the vehicle swerving from left to right then attempt to merge from the left lane to right lane, almost hitting another vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the deputy identified the driver as Gant. A background check on Gant revealed he had a suspended driver's license. Gant was issued a summons to appear in court on July 29, 2019.

 

Albert Lee Bacon, 18, 1413 Canal St., Bayou Vista, La., was arrested on April 1, 2019, at 8:36 pm for failure to yield and possession of marijuana.

 

A deputy patrolling the area of Canal Rd. in Bayou Vista, La., when he observed a vehicle fail to yield. A traffic stop was conducted and the deputy identified the driver as Bacon. While speaking with Bacon, he appeared nervous. Bacon admitted to having marijuana inside the vehicle. Bacon was issued a summons to appear in court on July 29, 2019.

 

Joseph Cornelius Young III, 49, 300 Tiffany St., Patterson, La., was arrested on April 2, 2019, at 12:20 am on a warrant for failure to appear for careless operation of a motor vehicle.

 

A deputy was patrolling the area of Siracusa when he observed a male subject identified as Young standing in the middle of James Street. The deputy made contact with Young. A background check revealed the above-mentioned warrant. Young was arrested and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bond has been set.

 

Shamus Michael Dardeau, 44, 525 Clark St., Bayou Vista, La., was arrested on April 2, 2019, at 2:05 am for driving on roadway laned for traffic, driving under suspension, and possession of marijuana.

 

Tereza Marie Foster, 51, 308 Carol Rd., Bayou Vista, La., was arrested on April 2, 2019, at 2:05 am on a warrant for failure to appear.

 

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 182 in Berwick, La. when he observed a vehicle swerving and cross the centerline and fog line multiple times. A traffic stop was conducted and the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Dardeau, and a passenger, identified as Foster. While speaking to the deputy, both Dardeau and Foster appeared nervous. The deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle at which Dardeau granted. During the search of the vehicle, no contraband was found. Berwick Police assisted with the traffic stop and during a search of Dardeau's person, marijuana was found. A background check on Dardeau revealed his license was suspended. A background on Foster revealed the above-mentioned warrants. Dardeau was issued a summons to appear in court on July 29, 2019. Foster was arrested and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bond has been set.

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

 

Amy B. Picard, 20, 4416 Irish Bend Rd. Lot #1, Franklin, La., was arrested on April 1, 2019, at 4:45 pm for possession of schedule II drugs (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of CDS law in a drug-free zone (Church) and a warrant for domestic abuse battery.

 

Narcotics detectives conducted an investigation at 4416 Irish Bend Rd., Lot #1, in Franklin, La. While detectives were approaching the residence, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the house. A search warrant was obtained and executed by detectives. During the search of the house, marijuana, methamphetamine, and several items of drug paraphernalia were found. The residence is located within 2,000 feet of a church. Picard also had an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse battery. Picard was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bond has been set at $6,000.
