St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 41 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Samantha Renee Jones, 35, 506 Ninth St., Franklin, La., was arrested on April 4, 2019, at 9:16 am on a warrant for failure to appear.

 

Jones was located at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the above-mentioned warrant. Bond has been set at $495.

 

Sherwin Ray Yancy, 48, 633 Freetown Rd., Glencoe, La., was arrested on April 4, 2019, at 8:54 pm for driving while intoxicated (1st offense), open container, discharging firearms where prohibited, and hunter take deer from public road.

 

A deputy was dispatched to a complaint of a trespasser and illegal hunter on La. Hwy. 319 near King Crabber Lane in Cypremont Point, La. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the complainant who told the deputy he witnessed a vehicle stop on the highway in front of his property and shoot a hog. The complainant gave a description of the vehicle and the deputy located the vehicle a short time later. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Yancy. After speaking with Yancy, he admitted to shooting the hog in a yard from the highway. Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries was contacted for the charges of hunting. While conducting the investigation, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Yancy and his speech was slurred. Yancy admitted he had been drinking earlier and the deputy located an open bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle. The deputy transported Yancy to the Franklin Police Department for chemical testing on the Intoxilyzer 9000.  Yancy’s blood alcohol content tested at 0.184g%. Yancy was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bond has been set.

 

James Patrick Freifeld, 39, Amelia, La., was arrested on April 4, 2019, at 11:26 pm for remaining where forbidden and battery of a dating partner.

 

Deputies were dispatched to a complaint at 111 Cajun Way Lane in Amelia, La., in reference to removing a subject from the property. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the male subject, identified as Freifeld, who was walking around the building. Freifeld told deputies that he and his girlfriend had gotten into an altercation that caused him to be banned from the business. Deputies observed physical signs of abuse present on the victim. Freifeld was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bond has been set.

 

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

 

Enrique F. Loza, 39, 1507 South Road, Bayou Vista, La., was arrested on April 4, 2019, at 3:26 pm for reckless operation of a vehicle.

 

Narcotics detectives were assisting with road blockage in the Bayou Vista, La., area due to flooding. While blocking off the intersection of Jupiter St. and Delmar St., detective’s attention were drawn to citizens in their yards yelling at a vehicle traveling down Jupiter St. to slow down. Detectives looked back and observed a vehicle traveling at a high-rate of speed through flooded waters, forcing water up to citizen’s houses and property. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Loza. Loza was issued a summons to appear in court on July 29, 2019.
