Marine Report- August 28, 2019

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 21-day reporting period, the Marine Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the following incident:

 

Stranded Vessel: August 6, 2019, at 4:31 pm, 128 M/B of the ICW.

Deputies with the Marine Section were contacted by dispatch in reference to a possible overturned vessel near the 128 M/B of the ICW.

SMPSO Marine deputies launched the SMPSO Marine Vessel and responded to the location. Upon arrival, marine deputies observed a vessel overturned in the middle of the channel. Through further investigation, the deputies learned the vessel had been overturned for quite some time. The deputies then secured the tow line to the vessel and towed it to a nearby dead-end canal to clear the navigation channel

 

 

Stranded Vessel:  August 15, 2019, at 9:00 pm, Deer Island Bayou, Morgan City, La. 

Deputies with the Marine Section were contacted by dispatch in reference to three male subjects stuck on a sand bar near the mouth of Deer Island Bayou and Atchafalaya River.

SMPSO Marine deputies launched the SMPSO Marine Patrol Vessel and responded to the location. Upon arrival, the marine deputies made contact with the subjects who stated a passing workboat had pulled them free from the sand bar before marine deputies had arrived.
