St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 34 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Corey Thomas Tarver, 42, 1823 Main St., Patterson, La., was arrested on September 16, 2019, at 8:03 pm for possession of marijuana.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Hwy. 182 near Clarke Rd. in Bayou Vista when he observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and a passenger, identified as Tarver. During the stop, drugs were found. Tarver was arrested and released on a summons to appear in court on December 2, 2019.

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

 

Derek Gaskin, 39, 131 Friendship Alley, Amelia, La., was arrested on September 16, 2019, at 8:55 pm on the following charges:

  • Possession of schedule I drugs (marijuana)
  • Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
  • Violation of uniform CDS law in a drug-free zone
  • Possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies

Narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at 131 Friendship Alley in Amelia and made contact with Gaskin. During the search, drugs and a firearm were found.  Gaskin was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.
