Marine Report- September 20, 2019

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 7-day reporting period, the Marine Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the following incident:

Search/Rescue:  September 13, 2019, 10:00 pm, Atchafalaya River near Myette Point 

Deputies with the Marine Section were contacted by dispatch in reference to a stranded boater. Dispatch advised two people were aground in Bozos Canal and needed assistance.

Deputies made contact with the boater and one passenger by phone and learned that the two were frogging when they ran aground and needed assistance freeing the vessel from the sand bar. The boater provided deputies with coordinates to his location.

Deputies launched the SMPSO Marine Patrol Vessel and traveled to the location and made contact with the boater and one passenger. The vessel was hard aground in a ditch leading to Bozos Canal. Deputies handed the boater a tow line and had him secure the vessel and were able to tow it free.

 

Assistance: September 16, 2019, at 11:45 am, Myette Point

Deputies with the Marine Section were contacted by dispatch in reference to a lost boater in the Myette Point area.

Deputies made contact with the boater by phone and learned that he and a passenger were catfishing when it started to rain and he got lost. The boater was able to give the coordinates through his GPS.

Deputies launched the SMPSO Marine Patrol Vessel and were traveling to the location when the boater advised the marine deputies that another fisherman showed them the way back to the landing. The boater advised they no longer needed assistance.
