St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise W. Smith Reports Fatality from Overturned Amphibious Vehicle In St. Mary Parish

Sheriff Blaise W. Smith advises that an overturned amphibious vehicle results in the death of a 22-year-old man, Jeffrey Paul Curry, Jr., of Arnaudville, Louisiana.

At approximately 12:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2019, an amphibious vehicle overturned in Bayou Ramos in Amelia, Louisiana.  The vehicle was carrying three men who were working in the Bayou. Two of the men were able to swim to safety. Curry was located about three hours later by divers with the Dive Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

Agencies assisting in the effort to locate Curry were the Amelia Fire Department, Morgan City Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Sheriff Blaise Smith and the deputies of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office send our condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Paul Curry, Jr. Our prayers and thoughts will be with his family and friends during this time.

Further questions should be directed to the U.S. Coast Guard as they will be conducting further investigation into the incident.
