Arrest Report, January 2, 2020

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 98 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Michael Delano Bourgeois, III, 21, 416 Seventh Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 9:56 am on the following charges:

-Possession of schedule I drug with intent to distribute


-No driver's license


-Possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug-free zone


-Possession of CDS in the presence of a person under 17


-Obstruction to driver's view


Renaldo Keith Toussaint, Jr., 25, 615 Fifth Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 10:30 am for obstruction of justice-tampering.

A deputy was traveling on Hospital Avenue in Franklin when he observed a vehicle with numerous items hanging from the rear view mirror. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Bourgeois, a passenger, Toussaint, and a juvenile passenger. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Bourgeois had no driver's license and marijuana was found in the vehicle. Later, Toussaint admitted that he had a marijuana blunt but had eaten it before the deputy made contact with him. Bourgeois and Toussaint were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Both Bourgeois and Toussaint were released on $5,000 bonds.

 

Mitchell Nelson, 64, 106 Rue Mirbeau Avenue, Lafayette, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 12:17 pm for reckless operation no accident and open container.

Deputies were dispatched to Highway 90 Eastbound near Highway 318 in reference to a reckless driver complaint.  Upon arrival, the deputies observed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  They made contact with the driver, Nelson, and through the stop discovered that Nelson had an open container of alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. Nelson was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking and was later released on a $1,000 bond.

 

Anthony James Morris, 19, 811 Guidroz Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 5:41 pm for criminal trespass, criminal damage to property-simple, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jasmine Nicole Smith, 22, 131 Beau Chene Lane, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 5:41 pm for criminal trespass and criminal damage to property-simple.

Juvenile male, 16, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 5:41 pm for criminal trespass, criminal damage to property-simple, and possession of THC wax.

Deputies were dispatched to the Charenton Levee near Franklin in reference to the levee being on fire, and the vehicle that caused it was stuck in the mud.  Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with Morris, Smith, and a juvenile male. Through the investigation, the deputies learned that the juvenile driving the vehicle was cutting donuts on the levee, and the fire was started due to the heat of the transmission. The juvenile was in possession of THC wax as well. The juvenile was transported to the SMPSO headquarters for processing.  He was arrested and released to the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. Smith and Morris were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail has not been set.

 

Latasha Marie Callery, 37, 1050 Cayce Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 6:51 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled, expired motor vehicle inspection, and operating a vehicle with improper headlamps. Callery was additionally charged with the following new charges:

 

-No license plate light


-Driving under suspension


-Switched license plate/stolen license plate


-No insurance


-Possession of marijuana


A deputy was patrolling the area of highway 182 in Baldwin when he observed a vehicle with no operable license plate light. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Callery. Through the investigation, the deputy found marijuana in the vehicle and dispatch advised him that there was no insurance on the vehicle, the license plate belonged to a different vehicle, and Callery's license was suspended. Callery was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $5,750.

 

Chris Landry, 42, 3905 Francis Street, Berwick, LA, was arrested on December 30, 2019, at 10:26 pm for monetary instrument abuse.

A deputy was dispatched to a local business in Bayou Vista in reference to a Monetary Instrument Abuse complaint. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the owner of the business who stated that Landry had tried to exchange a counterfeit bill for smaller bills at his business. Through the investigation, the deputy traveled to another business in Bayou Vista where Landry had attempted to again exchange a counterfeit bill for smaller bills. Sometime later, the deputy, assisted by the Berwick Police Department, made contact with Landry on Third Street in Berwick. Landry was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  He was later released on a $3,000 bond.

 

Juvenile male, 14, Jeanerette, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2019, at 3:47 pm for ungovernable juvenile, no driver's license, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Deputies were dispatched to a location in Jeanerette in reference to a juvenile that took a vehicle without permission. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the complainant who stated that the juvenile had taken her vehicle again without permission. The juvenile arrived at the location with the vehicle and was arrested and processed. He was arrested and released to the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.

 

Scott Paul Burke, 50, 101 Braquet St., Loreauville, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2019, at 6:43 pm for disturbing the peace-intoxicated.

Sherry Marie Bland, 43, 2314 Old Jeanerette Road, New Iberia, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2019, at 6:43 pm on a warrant through the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office for aggravated assault domestic abuse.

A deputy was dispatched to a disturbance in progress at the Burns Point Campground. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the complainant who stated that Burke had been causing a disturbance. The deputy made contact with Burke and Bland and learned that they had been in an argument. Dispatch advised the deputy that Bland had an active warrant for her arrest. Both Burke and Bland were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bland was transferred to another agency and Burke's bail was set at $1,000.

 

Linn Michael Rhodes, 50, 517 Southwest Road, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2019, at 7:18 pm for domestic abuse battery.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Southwest Road in Bayou Vista in reference to a domestic abuse battery complaint. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the complainant who stated that Rhodes had grabbed the complainant's arm during a dispute. The deputy made contact with Rhodes and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Rhodes was later released on a $2,500 bond.

 

Derrick Charles Brown, Sr., 45, 239 Coulee Street, Baldwin, LA, was arrested on December 31, 2019, at 9:46 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. Brown was also arrested on the new charges of speeding, driving under suspension, and driving while intoxicated.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Martin Luther King Road in Baldwin when he observed a vehicle traveling over the posted speed limit.  The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Brown, and a passenger. The deputy could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Brown and conducted field sobriety in which Brown performed poorly. Brown was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $32,433.50.

 

Chelsea Lynn Trahan, 28, 335 Dansin Road, Raceland, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2020, at 3:08 am for battery-simple.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on highway 182 in Amelia in reference to a disturbance.  Upon arrival, he made contact with a complainant who stated that she was in an argument with a co-worker, identified as Trahan, who hit her multiple times. The deputy made contact with Trahan and transported her to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $2,500.

 

Travis Anthony Yates, Sr, 38, 104 Chris Lane, Centerville, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2020, at 5:04 pm on a warrant for simple burglary,

A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Chris Lane in Centerville in reference to a welfare concern.  Upon arrival, he made contact with Yates.  It was learned that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  Yates was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  No bail has been set.

 

Jamie Lynn Brown, 36, 102 Clifton Street, Thibodaux, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2020, at 6:31 pm on a warrant for theft. 

A deputy made contact with Brown at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.  It was learned that there was an active warrant for her arrest.  Brown was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  No bail has been set.

 

Aljacia Jerelyn James, 26, 380 Prairie Road North, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 2, 2020 at 4:34 am on the following charges:

-Failure to dim headlights

-Driving under suspension

-Possession of drug paraphernalia

-Possession of marijuana

 

A deputy was patrolling the area of Prairie Road in Centerville when he observed a vehicle traveling with their bright lights on.  The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, James.  During the stop, dispatch advised that James had a suspended driver's license.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located.  James was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  Bail was set at $4,750.

 

NARCOTICS DIVISION

 

John Werline, 66, 102 Chris Lane, Centerville, LA, was arrested on January 1, 2020 at 3:15 pm for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and transactions involving drug proceeds.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Bayou Vista when he observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal.  The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and passenger, Werline.  Upon speaking with Werline the deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  During the stop, the deputy located marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Werline was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  No bail has been set.
