Arrest Report, January 6, 2020

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 103 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Randy Brown, Sr., 46, 239 Coulee St., Baldwin, LA, was arrested on January 3, 2019, at 1:19 pm on a Baldwin Police Department warrant for the charges of attempted second-degree murder and simple battery.

A transportation deputy made contact with Brown when she transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center from another agency. Brown was processed and incarcerated. Bail was set at $47,500.

 

Dazjhalun Qakwanze Charles, 22, 111 Cleveland Lane, Jeanerette, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 1:04 am on the following charges:

  • Brake lights required
  • Speeding
  • Improper display of license plates
  • Driving under suspension
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug-free zone
  • Obstruction of justice-tampering

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 182 in Jeanerette when he observed a vehicle with one inoperable brake light. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Charles. It should be noted that before the vehicle stopped, a baggie was thrown out of the vehicle. Through the stop, dispatch advised that Charles' license was suspended. The deputy retrieved the baggie, which contained marijuana that belonged to Charles. Drug paraphernalia was also found. The deputy transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Charles was subsequently released on a $10,250 bond.

 

Matthew Taylor Rollins, 26, 113 Diane Lane, Patterson, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 3:01 am on the following charges:

  • General speed law
  • Improper lane usage
  • Driver must be licensed
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 90 in Jeanerette when he observed a vehicle traveling over the posted speed limit. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Rollins, and a passenger. Through the stop, the deputy learned that Rollins did not have a driver's license, and drug paraphernalia belonging to Rollins was located. Rollins was arrested and released on a summons to appear on May 1, 2020.

 

Austin Joseph Schwing, 30, 1913 North Street, Baton Rouge, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 4:17 am for driving under suspension and a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of simple battery and theft. Schwing also held an active warrant through Lafayette on the charges of domestic abuse battery and simple battery.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Cove Row in Cypremort Point when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked in front of two docks that were without camps. The deputy stopped and made contact with the driver, Schwing. Through the stop, dispatch advised that Schwing's license was suspended and that he held active warrants for his arrest. The deputy transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $5,000 and a hold was put on Schwing for another agency.

 

Justin Matthews Batiste, 35, 805 Fox Run Lane, Lafayette, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 11:19 am on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of failing to honor written promise to appear, operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled, and speeding (2 counts).

A transportation deputy made contact with Batiste when she transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center from another agency. Batiste was processed, incarcerated, and later released on a $7,000 bond.

 

Clement Joseph Mire, 37, 116 Degravelle Road, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 8:53 pm for criminal trespass and unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling.

A deputy responded to a residence on Barrow Street in Amelia in reference to an attempted residential burglary.  Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the complainant who stated that someone attempted to get into the residence and showed the deputy video footage of the suspect. Later in the shift, the deputy responded to a residence on Degravelle Road in reference to a disturbance.  Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male subject who stated that he had viewed the footage from the previous incident and identified the male suspect as Mire and was confronting Mire concerning the incident when they began to argue. Mire was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

Beau Jaymes Bourque, 28, 110 Martin Luther King, Baldwin, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 11:00 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of driving under suspension and failure to stop/yield sign.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 83 near Franklin when he observed a vehicle fail to give a proper signal prior to making a turn. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Bourque. Through the stop, dispatch advised that Bourque held an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bourque was later released on a $750 bond.

 

Jennifer Welsh-Harvey, 26, 324 Bowman Street, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 12:25 am for turning movements and signals required, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle fail to give a proper signal before making a turn. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and made contact with the driver, Welsh-Harvey, and two passengers. Through the stop, marijuana and drug paraphernalia belonging to Welsh-Harvey was located. Welsh-Harvey was arrested and released on a summons to appear on May 1, 2020.

 

Renardo Dywarne Stewart, 43, 308 Easy Street, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 1:00 am on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of no license plate lights, speeding, and no license plate lights.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 182 near Walmart in Franklin when he observed a vehicle being driven by Stewart who he knew held active warrants for his arrest. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Stewart, and advised him of the active warrants. Stewart was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

Anthony John Pennison, Jr., 48, 174 Mallard Street, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 1:26 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family.

A deputy was traveling through Berwick when he observed a male subject, Pennison, who he knew held an active warrant. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with Pennison and advised him of the active warrants. Pennison was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $1,981.26.

 

Gregory Scott Payne, 44, 151 Oregon Street, Berwick, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 1:29 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle not covered by security and failure to obey a traffic device.

A deputy made contact with Payne at a residence on Oregon Street and advised him of the active warrant. Payne was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

Dillan Michael Johnson, 18, 115 Annabelle Lane, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 2:33 pm for battery-simple and disturbing the peace by fighting.

Dorthy Jonna Wilson, 38, 5196 Highway 87, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 4:30 pm for battery-simple and criminal damage to property-simple.

Taylor Luke, 23, 115 Annabelle Lane, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 3:06 pm for disturbing the peace by language.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Highway 87 near Charenton in reference to a disturbance. Through the investigation, the deputies learned that a disturbance had occurred in which Johnson struck a person during an argument, Wilson had pushed over Johnson's motorcycle during the disturbance, resulting in damage to the bike, and Luke was yelling at Wilson. Johnson had left the scene but was located by deputies a short time later. Johnson, Wilson, and Luke were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Luke was released later on a $250 bond, Johnson was released on a $3,500 bond, and Wilson was released on a $3,000 bond.

 

Hiram Anthony Variet, 43, 409 Clements Street, Patterson, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 9:37 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.

A deputy made contact with Variet while working an unrelated complaint. Dispatch advised that Variet had an active warrant for his arrest.  Variet was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail was set at $1,500.

 

Eric Terrell Louis, Sr., 43, 209 Wise Street, Patterson, LA, was arrested on January 6, 2019, at 2:33 pm for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, turning movements and signals required, and on a warrant for failure to appear on the following charges:

  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute
  • Manufacturing of cocaine
  • Conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute

A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle fail to give a proper signal before making a turn. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and made contact with the driver, Louis, and a passenger. Through the stop, marijuana and drug paraphernalia belonging to Louis were found, and dispatch advised the deputy that Louis held an active warrant for his arrest. Louis was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.

 

K9 DIVISION

Kevin James Diggs, 43, 157 Roy's Lane, Centerville, LA, was arrested on January 4, 2019, at 1:05 am for possession of methamphetamines.

A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 317 near Yellow Bayou Road when he observed a vehicle with one operable taillight. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and a passenger, identified as Diggs. During the stop, K9 Chara was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the area around the vehicle, and she showed an odor response to the vehicle. Methamphetamine belonging to Diggs was found. Diggs was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Diggs was later released on a $6,000 bond.

 

K9/NARCOTICS DIVISION

Anthony Ed James, 34, 2136 Highway 83, Ashton, LA, was arrested on January 5, 2019, at 8:37 pm on the following charges:

  • Taillights required
  • Possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of schedule II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • CDS law; drug-free zone (church)
  • Transactions involving drug proceeds

A narcotics detective was called by an SMPSO K9 deputy to assist with a traffic stop. The deputy had observed a vehicle with an inoperable taillight and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 83.  During the stop, K9 Chara was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff and showed a positive odor response.  Subsequently, marijuana, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia were located.  James was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail has been set.
