St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 6-week reporting period, the Marine Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the following incidents:

Assistance-Stranded boat:  February 16, 2020, 7:30 am, ICW M/B 122

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Section received a call from dispatch advising of a stranded vessel in the IWC near the Charenton Canal. Dispatch advised that there were 2 persons in the boat and that they needed assistance due to engine trouble. The deputy contacted the boater who said he was fishing a bass tournament when he had failure in the engine's lower unit. The deputies were able to tow the stranded vessel to the Franklin boat launch without incident.

 

Assistance-Stranded boat:  February 28, 2020, 9:45 am, Southwest Pass

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Section received a call from a boater who advised that he had run aground in Southwest Pass. The boater and two juveniles were stranded in the vessel. The deputy advised the boater that they would respond to the boat's location. Upon arrival, the deputies had the boater to secure a tow line to the vessel and pulled the vessel from the reef. After the boater checked for leaks, the vessel was able to return to the launch under its own power.
