St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 1-week reporting period, the Marine Section of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the following incidents:

Assistance mission:  June 27, 2020, 6:30 pm, Bayou Teche Sorrel

On Saturday, June 27, 2020, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Section received a call from dispatch in reference to a boating accident.  Dispatch advised that a boat had struck a floating camp in the Bayou Teche near Sorrel. The boater had climbed back in the vessel and was drifting.

Two deputies with the SMPSO Marine Section responded to the address given and learned that the boater had been transported to the hospital via ambulance. The deputies observed the boater's vessel docked at the address and took photographs of the vessel and the damage to the camp as they awaited the arrival of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The scene was turned over to LDWF.
