St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 22 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Akeem Wiggins, 18, Franklin, LA, was arrested on March 2, 2021, at 2:37 pm for theft. Wiggins was released on a summons to appear on June 28, 2021.

 

 

Shawn Edward McCauley, 43, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on March 2, 2021, at 10:14 pm for bicycle equipment required for night operation, possession of methamphetamines, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. No bail has been set.

 

 

NARCOTICS/K9 SECTION

Kevin J. Kowle, 22, Lafayette, LA, was arrested on March 3, 2021, at 1:04 am on the following charges:

• Driving left of center
• Possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute
• Possession of schedule II (cocaine) with intent to distribute
• Possession of schedule I (THC wax) with intent to distribute
• Possession of schedule I (mushrooms)
• Possession of drug paraphernalia

A detective with the SMPSO Narcotics Section was contacted by a patrol deputy in reference to a K9 that had detected narcotics on a traffic stop. The detective traveled to the location and made contact with the K9 deputy to assist.

The K9 deputy advised that he had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 90 in the Calumet area due to the vehicle traveling in the left lane but not actively passing anyone. The deputy had made contact with the driver, identified as Kolwe.  During the stop, K9 Jace was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the outside of the vehicle and subsequently showed a positive odor response.

Drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle as well as narcotics in amounts consistent with dealer amounts. Kolwe was arrested and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.  No bail has been set.
