St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 38 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Brenda Jones, 57, New Iberia, LA, was arrested on August 10, 2021, at 10:40 am for improper lane usage and driving under suspension. Jones was released on a summons to appear on November 2, 2021.

 

Artemio Rodriguez, 43, Amelia, LA, was arrested on August 10, 2021, at 2:49 pm on a warrant for animal cruelty. Rodriguez was released on a summons to appear on November 2, 2021.

 

Maria Ortiz, 44, Amelia, LA, was arrested on August 10, 2021, at 2:38 pm on a warrant for animal cruelty. Ortiz was released on a summons to appear on November 2, 2021.

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

Laryon Dionez James, 23, Baton Rouge, LA, was arrested on August 10, 2021, at 12:34 pm on the following charges:

• Driving left of center
• Possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute
• Possession of schedule II (oxycodone)
• Possession of schedule II (amphetamine/dexamphetamine)
• Possession of legend drug without prescription (promethazine)
• Transactions involving drug proceeds
• Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS (2 counts)
• Possession of drug paraphernalia

James was released on a $30,000 bond.
