St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 85 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Derrick Jamar Meads, 40, Labadieville, LA, was arrested on January 27, 2023, at 7:28 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of speeding and operating a vehicle while license is suspended/revoked/canceled. Meads was released on a $1,000 bond.

 

David Nelson Collins, 47, Palmetto, LA, was arrested on January 27, 2023, at 9:43 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of domestic abuse battery-strangulation (child present), conspiracy to obstruction of justice, and resisting an officer. Bail was set at $130,000.

 

Ernest Peter Thomas, 39, Jeanerette, LA, was arrested on January 28, 2023, at 9:20 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the following charge:

  • Failure to obtain special identification card (sex offender)
  • Resisting arrest or officer
  • Failure to pay annual registration fee
  • Registration of sex offenders

Bail was set at $6,250.

 

Alex Wayne Horton, 34, Amelia, LA, was arrested on January 29, 2023, at 4:06 pm for battery of a dating partner. Bail was set at $2,500.

 

Jericho Billington, 30, Morgan City, LA, was arrested on January 29, 2023, at 8:24 pm on two warrants for failure to appear on the charges of improper turn/failing to give proper signal, operating a vehicle without a driver's license, and failing to honor written promise to appear. Bail was set at $865.

 

Charnise Latrell Safford, 44, Franklin, LA, was arrested on January 30, 2023, at 1:07 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of CDS in the presence of a juvenile, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $25,000.

 

NARCOTICS SECTION

Joey Choplin, 43, Belle Rose, LA, was arrested on January 27, 2023, at 4:52 pm on an Assumption Parish warrant for felony shoplifting theft. Choplin is being held for another agency.

 

All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
