St. Mary Parish Sheriff Gary Driskell Reports that Three Offenders Transported to Medical Facility
Sheriff Gary Driskell reports that three inmates at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center were transported to a local medical facility for medical evaluation after experiencing a medical episode.
At approximately 9:00 pm on Wednesday night, February 5, Corrections deputies reported three offenders who were experiencing shortness of breath and other symptoms. Acadian Ambulance was called to the L.E.C. and subsequently, all three offenders were transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
They were transported back to the SMPLEC after evaluation on Wednesday night.
"We are glad that all three of our inmates were medically cleared. As per normal protocol, detectives were sent to our jail to investigate what caused this incident and inspect all the dorms and look for any contraband. The standard of care and custody of our offenders remains very high, and we will continue to work hard in order to insure their care," said Sheriff Driskell.
No further details are available at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
