The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office (SMPSO) has been awarded grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to support enhanced traffic safety enforcement efforts throughout St. Mary Parish.
The grant period runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026, and provides:
$𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
$𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
These funds will allow SMPSO deputies to conduct additional traffic safety enforcement initiatives during 2026, with a focused emphasis on seatbelt compliance, child restraint usage, and the detection and removal of impaired drivers from parish roadways.
The primary objective of the partnership between the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission is to reduce the number of fatal and injury crashes on Louisiana roadways through proactive enforcement and public safety education.
𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐥 emphasized the importance of the grant, noting that "𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔."
SMPSO encourages all motorists to always wear seatbelts, ensure children are properly restrained, and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
